Greta Van Fleet

Greta Van Fleet is a rock band from the US, they started in 2012 as a garageband, but now they are pretty popular in America and on their second world tour. Their most popular song is probably Highway Tune, give it a listen if you want to, I recommend it! I went to one of their concerts before, that was last Summer, together with my dad. I have a T-shirt with one of their logos on it, and a girl from my music class recognized it and we talked about the band. And turns out, she had even bought two tickets for their next concert in Manchester. And even crazier, that concert was happening on my birthday! So of course, I didn’t hesitate and we went to the GvF concert on my birthday. Since last time, I bought seated tickets and I only got to see them from a far, we wanted to queue for the concert, so we could stand right by the barriers and watch them up close. This ment, I had to stand up at 8 am on my birthday to catch an early train to Manchester. We ended up going to a clothing store first and I got some good falafel. At about 1 pm, we arrived at the AO Arena (the concert hall) and after some looking, we found a group of people that already started queueing before us. Remember, the doors were said to open at 6, and the concert start at 7! So we sat down and chatted with some of the other fans. It didn’t help that it was raining all day and the floor was already wet…

All in all we waited for 4 -5 hours until they started opening the doors, from there on we had to stand for another 1 1/2 hours in line, and at 7:30 pm were in the concert hall waiting for the openers to start. At this point we were already exhausted but it turned out to be totally worth it! Here is a picture so you know how big this arena was. And we were standing like 5 meters away from the stage!

Openers were Hannah Wicklund (which I have heard about, but never listened to – she was very good) and another band that I don’t remember the name of. Greta Van Fleet started playing around 9 pm and the concert lasted until 11 pm. What I thought was very considerate was that the security started giving out cups of water for the people right in front, which proved necessery because 5 people fainted and had to be carried out of the hall… One group of fans bought loads of glow sticks, and they were handing them out to everybody. Their plan was to pull them all out when a certain song played. But they didn’t play it, or so we thought, because when the concert was done they came on stage again for an encore and played that song at the very end. Everybody was going crazy haha. It looked very cool.

The concert was awesome in the end, and I my birthday was better than I though it could have been! See you next time.
